Forming by Folding
This body of work explores formwork not as passive container but as an agent of design, an active boundary where intention, material behavior, and chance converge. Each cast became a conversation between surface and volume, solid and void, between the logic of mold and the unpredictability of flow. Early investigations traced topographies with calibrated curvature, others tested sectional thickening and modular interlock, choreographing compression, porosity, and light. Rather than chase a singular form, the work dwelled in the space between cast and casting. These elements, once poured and cured, hold memory, of tools, of process, of the negative that once held them. In resisting digital subtraction, this work reclaims the poetics of making through tactile, analog means. It proposes a return to the craft of formwork, not as a relic of the past, but as fertile ground for architectural invention.
